Neve, First Asheville Rescue

Last week my sister Chelsea and I drove to the Madison County Animal Shelter to rescue and re home an animal. Getting to the shelter was a bit nerve racking. Being in a place with so many faces, young and old. Facing the fact that you already know you can't take them all, and any day now will probably be their last. There was barking, there was blood and hurt animals, there was a completely passionate and unappreciated staff, and there was Neve (Like Neville). Nine months old. Pit/Bull Dog mix.
Chelsea and I noticed her because she was docile and the one of the only dogs that was not a complete puppy. We then found out that she had been at the shelter for almost two months and was supposed to be euthanized last month. But, none of the staff could bring themselves to do it due to how incredibly sweet she is. We took her outside and instantly saw what they meant.
She hadn't been adopted yet because she has a dislocated knee that will need surgery in order to stay in place so she can walk better, run and play.
One of the staff members told us she was going to have to be euthanized that day, and they asked us if we didn't want to adopt her, if we could just foster her for two weeks and if no home was found for her we could adopt her for free.
Chelsea and I couldn't say no to the opportunity to take her home and try to find her an owner that could pay for her surgery, which would range between 600 and 1200 dollars.
Shortly after I start looking for her new home, I get an email from Angela (a worker at the shelter) saying that a veterinarian has agreed to do the surgery for an extremely low cost, and that I can bring Neve back to her because she has actually decided to keep her through the recovery, and forever!
I (and the million people that have already fallen in love with her) am so excited that this chance fell into our laps and she will be able to run AND never limp again! We will all miss her, but she will be in a big home with dogs and kids and family.
In the meantime it has been all play with our pitbull Zelda. And a few hours of sleep and snoring thrown in.
